Interesting factoid… Most “dollar stores” are NOT located in major shopping centers and malls
With all the hoopla over the potential dollar store acquisitions these days, we thought we’d see just how many “dollar stores” are listed as tenants in our major shopping center database. (Please note: this excludes freestanding, downtown and small strip centers of less than 175k sqft feet)
Family Dollar : 125
Dollar General: 130
Dollar Tree: 1,112
COMBINED TOTAL: 1,321
Other “dollar / $1.00” stores: 606
TOTAL: 1,927 in major shopping centers and malls (US & Canada)
The three major stores have a combined total of over 23,000 stores. This means that, less than 1% of their stores are located in major shopping centers or malls in the US and Canada.
BTW – this excludes any stores we are listing which fall into the penny saving category “99¢” stores
