Definitions for the Shopping Center subsets:
In November 2024, DMM expanded the universe of shopping centers and malls to over 17k properties with 355k+ associated tenants in the U.S. and Canada. This subset definition provides quicker access to the larger properties using the Center Subset selection on the Property & Proximity Details Search Tab.
In December 2025: DMM further expanded the dataset to include a new category of retail properties called “Retail Nodes”.
Subset Definitions:
- DMM: Centers with a Gross Leasable Area (GLA) of approx. 175k sqft. and above
- Small Centers*: Centers with a GLA less than 175K sqft.
- Retail Nodes**: Either an individual retail site or a small clusters of independent retail locations, that are not necessarily under a single shopping center name and/or possess significant gross leasable area (GLA), though not enough to qualify as a DMM Shopping Center.
*Small Centers may have limited contact details available. **Retail Nodes usually include only base location and trade area demographics with some identified retail.
